A Sleek Aleutian Style Kayak

An Aleutian style kayak for day touring or extended trips. This boat is built using the "stitch and glue" plywood construction for light weight, high strength and low cost. Available in 17' (5.2m) 18'(5.5m) or 19' (5.8m) sizes as plans or custom built, 18 foot size as a kit. The prototype Baidarka 17 weighs about 42 pounds.

The Baidarka is designed for the paddler who wants a unique looking boat with the performance and light weight beauty of wood at economical prices. I designed this boat to be as true to the looks of the Aleutian boats as possible with improved stability and comfort. These boats are built from Okoume mahogany plywood for strength and natural good looks. The Baidarka features the forked or bifid bow typical of Aleutian Eskimo hunting kayaks. Long waterline length and multi-chine hull make this a fast boat which will handle well in rough water. These boats track well and are little effected by wind due to their low profile.
